    Edinburgh. William Bell Scott’s father, Robert, was a successful engraver in Edinburgh. Scott entered the Trustees Academy, an art school in Edinburgh, in 1827, and studied there under Sir William Allan.

    Scott’s elder brother, David Scott, was also a painter, and his work in a Romantic grand manner had a significant influence on his brother.
